چکیده

We built a simple toy climbing robot in order to explore problems related to minimalist grasping, path planning, and robot control. The robot is capable of climbing a wall of pegs either under remote control, or on the basis of a set of pre-recorded keyframes. In addition, the robot can climb certain peg configurations using a cyclic gait. All communications are sent through an infrared connection, and the tether to the robot consists only of two power wires. Due to the minimalist, nonprehensile grasping method, the robot is capable of actively removing error while climbing, which is necessary to enable the robot to climb without sensing the environment.

A toy rock climbing robot Honors Thesis

The goal of this thesis was to build a simple toy rock climbing robot, and to explore problems related to grasping, path planning, and robot control. The robot is capable of climbing a wall of pegs either under manual control through a host system and an infrared interface, or on the basis of a set of pre-recorded keyframes. In addition, the robot can climb certain peg configurations using a cy...

Dynamic Modeling and Construction of a New Two-Wheeled Mobile Manipulator: Self-balancing and Climbing

Designing the self-balancing two-wheeled mobile robots and reducing undesired vibrations are of great importance. For this purpose, the majority of researches are focused on application of relatively complex control approaches without improving the robot structure. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a new two-wheeled mobile robot which, despite its relative simple structure, fulfills the req...

FROM THE FIELD • The Uncanny Valley

A Valley in One’s Sense of Affinity The mathematical termmonotonically increasing function describes a relation in which the function y 1⁄4 f x ð Þ increases continuously with the variable x. In fact, because such monotonicall...

Wall Climbing Robots with Track-wheel Mechanism

This paper presents a family of climbing robots that are using a track-wheel mechanism for locomotion mechanism. There are three robots: High speed vertical climbing robot, Flexible caterpillar robot, and Multi-linked climbing robot. The high speed vertical climbing robot uses suction pads to be attached on walls, and the robot has an advantage of high climbing speed of 14 m/min. The flexible c...
